Giving Back to America’s Bravest

Yellow Diamond Jewelry

Diamond Envy is announcing the “Giving Back to America’s Finest” campaign this Independence Day in celebration of our freedom and to raise awareness for causes supporting our veterans. Beginning July 4, 2015 through July 4, 2016, we will donate 5% of net proceeds from all sales of yellow diamonds to the Wounded Warrior Project.

The inspiration behind our effort to give back is veteran, Marine Jonathan Cochran. (You might remember him from this blog post.) He toured in Iraq and Afghanistan, and upon returning home, decided that Hilary Addison, a woman who stood by him through it all, was “the one.” Jonathan had a meticulously planned proposal in place on January 16 when the engagement ring he kept hidden in his car was ultimately stolen. Devastated and at a complete loss, he could only mourn the loss of the ring he had painstakingly saved up to buy. I read a news report of Jonathan’s misfortune and asked the team if we could do something to help. Our founder was so moved by the story that we donated a yellow diamond engagement ring to the couple.

The yellow diamond ring Jonathan knew would be perfect for Hilary.

On February 6, the Marine veteran revived his proposal plans and this time it all went off without a hitch. Cochran and Addison are happily engaged while their story provides added incentive for Diamond Envy to make a difference in the work we do daily.  So now we are looking forward and asking, “What can we do to help the very people who continuously defend the freedom we all enjoy every day?”

We chose Wounded Warrior Project as the charity for this campaign because of the direct impact September 11 had on New York City, our community and the American people. The events of September 11 inspired countless Americans to seek positive change for the greater good and Wounded Warrior Project is no exception. The longtime military-focused organization aims to serve veterans and service members who have suffered a physical or mental injury, illness or wound as a result of military service rendered on or after September 11, 2001, along with their families.

For those of you who don’t know, we are headquartered in New York City’s Diamond District.  Our staff and friends have witnessed an unprecedented rebirth of lower Manhattan in the years since the City’s darkest day. We hope that with your help, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those who serve and their compassionate families. On July 4, 2016, our founder will make a donation to WWP that is made possible with your support. Any purchase between now and Independence Day 2016 that includes yellow diamonds will benefit this wonderful cause.
